Strip 23: Captain's Orders

First, a note about Kakari’s breathing problems. Though you can probably infer this, if you’re confused, “baseline” lungs refer to natural(ish) human lungs, without excessive genetic modification. Baseline organs are about as close as the inhabitants of the Starnet get to our definition of human, although even their idea of a baseline fluctuates depending on the sector of space or the generation in question. While it seems like Kakari is the odd one out here, it should be more unusual that the others are doing so well.

Now, let’s talk about the curgs. My two main references for these nasty critters were the slogs from Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee and the graboids from Tremors, with a more wolflike physique and a hefty layer of insectoid armor. Basically, something as spiky and slobbery and gross as possible, because Dy-Gar would hate it.
