Strip 17: Back to the Dust
Okay, so now that we're back on track, I'll do a little retroactive commentary on the past couple of strips. If anyone was wondering why Dy-Gar looked all holographic and glowy in that scene, and if you don't want to figure it out for yourself, I'll explain it here. In past strips, the holographic effect has been used to denote objects or people that only Dy-Gar can see. So in this flashback, Dy-Gar sees himself as he currently is, not how he was when that flashback took place. Maybe flashback is the wrong term for it, since he experienced it as if for the first time, and in his present state of mind. More of a Christmas Carol-style, Ghost-of-Christmas-Past-inspired trip through a long-forgotten memory. There was even going to be a bit with Tiny Tim, but we had to cut it for pacing purposes.
And as for this strip, I wanted to finally pull back and show the true scope of the planet's devastation. We haven't seen much of Cykta outside of Dy-Gar's territory, which is good for that claustrophobic feel, but I'd still like to give people a better sense of the world, and this is the time to do it. It's strange, though. There are quite a lot of active satellites around an abandoned planet.
